Me too, Obama. (this is where you might get offended BTW) My religion doesn't agree with it, but I do. Same-sex couples have every right under the sun but marriage. Isn't freedom what America was supposed to be about?
ya so its at least good he agrees. Some states look up to the president for guidence IDK Y but like I hate Indiana I live in the northwest corner and since we are 2 mins from the ILL border we are Democratic and the rest of the state is Republican haha.
yeah, personally I think it will only be fair when hetero- and homosexual couples are allowed to legally wed, now, I'm not saying force churches to provide homosexual marriage, if they don't want to provide it they shouldn't have to, but by disallowing homosexual couples to marry it is discriminatory and that is not something we should be
hmph, sorry guys but I'm not buying it. He went on record shortly before he became president saying he "didn't personally endorse same sex marriage". The only reason he's supporting it now is because there is an election coming and he known the opposition will be pushing hard to repeal the state laws that currently allow it.
it's pure politics and has very little to do with his personal beliefs.
I sincerely hope that if he is re-elected he does keep this pledge and push for same sex marriage to be legal in all 52 states of the US, because the rest of the world might then take notice and set aside their own medieval and victorian resistance to the idea. But I seriously doubt it. The Republicans are regaining ground and conservative-ism is on the increase throughout Europe. If anything, longer term, I see the movement for equal gay rights slowing down rather than speeding up in the near future.
In places like UK and US I could even imagine current laws being repealed.
Especially when you consider the "church" has never backed the changes in the first place.
who cares the reasoning behind why he suddenly approves of it. he is the first to say such things regardless of why. it shouldnt matter to you people if its election year or not you still dont have to vote for him. im sick and tired of hearing oh he only did it cuz its election year... and you know what he is doing the same thing EVERY SINGLE politician has done for a long long time. say whatever you think the peopel will like to get in office to get elected i do not see the issue here as harmful. if anything wether he actually believes it or not it helps more people than it hurts. and if anyone thinks other wise go live in NC with all those homophobes they got there you will fit right in with them
Wow Obama way to finally see after 4 years that your faith, church, and state don't go together. If only people could forget what religion they are for 5 mins while voting and do what is humane the world would be a better place.
Thank you. If I where in congress or anything and I where catholic or baptist ( Im catholic but not really) I ould pretend I never had a religion nad it never existed so that i could think whats best for he people right now and down the road. Im Lesbian I know I dont like it when people compare the LQBTQ fight to the Civil Rights but I mean really if we can fix racism why cant love be legal T_T damn you religion.
I agree, if we can fix civil rights we can fix marriage rights as well Religion and politics should be separate, politics is a public thing that effects and religion is something much more personal, I think love will be legal one day, and this election has proved that progress
